Ladki Bahin Yojana
Didn't the Prime Minister ask us to become self-reliant - Atma Nirbhar?
Then why this inducement? Why are women being taken to this path of subjugation?
Why are women also becoming greedy and are not able to see the real picture?
A ₹1,500 Handout to Women, But at What Cost to the Society?
The Ladki Bahin Yojana might have initially seemed like a well-meaning step toward women's empowerment in Maharashtra, but the more I think about it, the more I realize it's nothing more than a clever political manoeuvre. Sure, ₹1,500 a month is a tempting offer for anyone who’s struggling, but let’s be clear here - This is not empowerment, it’s a band-aid solution for a much deeper wound.
While it’s okay to give the money to those who truly need it, the elderly, the sick, or women living in poverty-stricken rural areas who have no other means of support. Let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that this small cash handout is solving any real problems. The fact is women in cities with jobs, earning ₹20-25-30-even 35k a month, have also greedily applied for the scheme. And here's where it gets worse, Some of them don’t even need it. They’re not struggling. They are financially stable, yet they’ve jumped at the chance to grab this ₹1,500 without a second thought. It’s almost like they’ve become so numb to the idea of what's right and wrong that they don't even realize how much they're taking advantage of the system.
What's even more troubling is the ignorance surrounding the real impact of this scheme. Many of these women have absolutely no clue about how politics works or how such policies are often designed to manipulate public perception. Some of them don't even vote, yet here they are, reaping the benefits of a government handout that is meant for the truly deserving.
My statements aren’t just baseless claims or empty words thrown into the air. I’ve seen it firsthand. I know people who, despite being financially comfortable, have greedily applied for the Ladki Bahin Yojana. I’ve observed how women earning ₹25-30k a month who don’t really need the money are still taking advantage of this scheme, without even questioning if they’re morally right. These aren’t just abstract observations. I’ve witnessed the hypocrisy up close, with some of them completely unaware of the real issues or the long-term consequences of such handouts. They are only concerned with how much they can take, without realizing the bigger picture and the genuine needs of those who truly deserve it. Isn’t it greed then when people who are doing just fine take advantage of a scheme like this? Do they even think about the people who are really struggling, the ones who need this money to survive?
What makes this even worse is that these beneficiaries continue to act oblivious to the bigger picture. They’re completely unaware of the long-term consequences of such schemes. Rather than being grateful and using this opportunity to push for better jobs, better opportunities, or better education, they continue to live in a bubble, blissfully unaware of the fact that they’re just perpetuating a system that keeps everyone dependent.
We need to ask ourselves: Are we truly helping the women who need this, or are we just feeding greed and apathy in society? It’s easy to turn a blind eye to the needs of those around us when we’ve never been in their shoes, but it’s our duty to demand more than just a handout. Women are not looking for charity, they are looking for sustainable solutions that will help them rise above the poverty line, become entrepreneurs, get educated, and contribute to society in meaningful ways.
This scheme isn’t about making women independent. It’s about creating a false sense of progress, one where the government can say, “Look, we’ve done something!” without actually solving the real problems. What’s even more frustrating is that the money could be better spent, it could fund skill development programs, build infrastructure, or provide access to healthcare for those in real need. Instead, It’s being used as a political bribe, disguised as help for the people. Is this the kind of change we really want?
We have to ask ourselves, how long are we going to tolerate these temporary fixes that only scratch the surface of the real issues? It’s okay to give help to those who truly need it, like elderly women or those in remote areas but when people who are well-off are accepting this money, it’s not just unfair, it’s a betrayal to those who need it the most.
Also, if my memory serves me right, wasn’t everyone actually against the Ladki Bahin Yojana at first? ₹1,500 a month? What nonsense, they cried! It was just cheap politics, they said. But now, with election season around the corner, guess who’s offering more? Now it’s ₹3,000, ₹4,000! who knows, maybe next they’ll promise free gold bars. Each party is trying to outbid the other, doubling the handouts, and tripling the promises as if handing out money will magically solve everything. Those Politicians who once mocked this Ladki Bahin Yojana are now the loudest bidders. Funny how fast principles change when votes are at stake, huh?
Today's politics has become a ridiculous game, hand outs keep rising, and promises keep piling, but solutions? Nowhere in sight. The big plan of all the politicians - toss cash at voters, and hope nobody asks too many questions. It's not about empowerment anymore, it's about who can fool the public best. And with this Ladki Bahin Yojana, Women are just reduced to numbers.
Let’s wake up and ask for real empowerment, not a ₹1,500 handout that only serves to keep people dependent. Women deserve more than this. They deserve opportunities that lead to sustainable growth. We need to stop pretending, stop being greedy and understand that this is just a political tool used to buy votes. We need to start demanding what’s rightfully ours - A long-term solution that creates genuine change.
Are we really willing to let greed and ignorance dictate our future, or will we demand more for women everywhere?
